Lakia S. Elam, MBA, PHR, SHRM-CP
CEO/Principal Consultant
Lakia, the visionary behind MDC, is a true big picture thinker and inspirational force of nature. With over 25 years of HR and business operations experience in for-profit and nonprofit organizations, she has helped organizations at all stages of their business life cycle.
A lifelong learner, Lakia went back to school after 20 years in the workforce enrolling into PG Community college to obtain her Associates Degree. Ultimately, she transferred to University of Maryland Global Campus receiving her Bachelors in HR Management and Masters in Business Administration and was recently featured as one of their Unbreakable Diamonds.
Lakia’s passion and purpose remains with people – and helping those overlooked and undervalued shine. She is a master at seeing and bringing out the true talent in people. She coaches individuals at all career levels using her deep understanding of organizational operations and her people-centric focus to help individuals understand what is needed to get to, and succeed, at the next level. Her true sweet spot lies in middle management coaching, where she has helped countless people leap into their first management position and step up into their first VP/Chief role.
This passion for people seamlessly translates into assisting organizations with their operational needs. Whether it’s leading recruitment efforts during times of exponential growth and quickly filling vacancies with top-tier talent or helping coach employees and managers through performance improvement plans, Lakia executes masterfully. Her ability to develop simplified solutions to complex situations is second to none.

Laniyyah Elam, MBA, PMP, CAPM
Director OF Client Success
Laniyyah is our integrator at MDC. She brings order to chaos through tactical deployment of policies, creating exceptional customer experiences, and her sharp eye for detail helping to omit errors.
She is a certified Project Management Professional who holds a Masters in Business from University of the District of Columbia and a Bachelors in Innovation and Entrepreneurship from New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Combining her tactical skills with her proactive, growth-driven, and forward-thinking mindset, she has a history of aiding the planning and execution of multi-million dollar project transactions, partnering with executives and line managers across organizations to advise on varying business initiatives, aligning goals with growth-focused strategies to drive process improvements, minimize cost, maximize monetary growth, and advance internal compliance.
She is a strong facilitator and cross-functional collaborator that is able to propel positive and results-generating relations across multifunctional internal teams and between external partners. She has a tireless desire to promote and wholeheartedly embrace company culture and mission to advance business integrity.
She is enthusiastic and relentless in ensuring the success of MDC clients, their organization, staff, and membership through her agile and methodical approach to problems.

With 20 years of HR experience, Lakia felt like she had reached a ceiling and decided to enroll at UMGC, helping her keep the promise of earning her degree to her daughter and, ultimately, becoming a business owner starting MDC.
